When I was younger I was both enthralled and terrified by seahorses. Not that I came into close contact with them often. I would catch the occasional educational Reading Rainbow episode that would point out how the male horses were the ones who got pregnant, I’d see them in books, and I’d see them at the zoo.
In the large and eerily dark aquarium house at the local zoo, there was a tall glass case that stood apart from the others. Inside were the magical seahorses, clinging to plants with their curly tales. Up close, the seahorses looked ancient, covered in bumps. Watching them swim was a curious affair – they move their back fin to get through the water. They were certainly curious beings.
When I grew up, I’d later learn that my Dad, as a child, would send away for Seahorses and he had them in a tank. One unfortunate day his aquarium broke and the seahorses…they didn’t exactly make it. A sad fate, indeed. Most seahorses live between 1 and 5 years. But if you aren’t in the market for fish, maybe I can interest you in something that will last a big longer: Seahorse rings. I’m not the only one who craves these rings!
You can’t beat this particular simple Seahorse ring

A slightly rougher approach to the seahorse ring.
A charming seahorse ring!
