Although this ring looks as if a piece of stone was simply drilled and attached to a ring, that’s what it is but you can appreciate the rock itself in its natural form.
Archaic: French archaïque, from Greek archaïkos, from archaios – of, relating to, or characteristic of an earlier or more primitive time.
I am intrigued by the duality of this ring, from the uneven, worn textures of the turquoise to the sleek, futuristic silver of the setting.
The turquoise in this ring is rough and ridged, its panoply of greens peeking out of the black matrix.
The silver of the band and arms have been given a satin finish for contrast.
I riveted the turquoise into place, allowing for slight movement.
This ring was entirely hand fabricated by me. I was inspired by my grandmother’s stories of her archaeological digs in Guatemala.
