Cabochon, as I understand it, is defined as the kind of cut made in certain opaque gemstones in that the stone appear curved on top while flat at the bottom. Here’s a sample of a cabochon cut done to sapphire. Notice that its texture is different with less shine or sparkle. For this piece, I actually prefer it because the zirconia trimmings are enough to bring the shine.
