Triumphant Love: Art Deco Engagement Rings from the 1930’s! Inspired by “It Happened One Night”

ROUND DIAMOND ENGAGEMENT RING AND BAND ART DECO 1.56CTW

Love was triumphant for Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert in “It Happened One Night” – the classic 1934 movie about unlikely love. While this movie does involve the character of Ellie Andrews (Colbert) in a breathtaking wedding dress, you’ll have to watch the movie yourself to see if a wedding takes place. You simply can’t plan a wedding like that without an equally gorgeous wedding ring, of course.

I am absolutley in deep, lusty, love with the Vintage Glam Weddings blog.  I love the eye of the authoress, Amanda, who (among other things) shows her viewers lovely wedding photo shoots. Consider this particular wedding photoshoot that she’s featured. It’s ethereal, graceful, and charming.

With a personal fondness for vintage, I’m surprised I haven’t done a top five list for favorite vintage engagement

Five Modern Engagement Rings for a Red-Colored Wedding

14K White Gold Diamond Ring

I’ve been inspired by the post on Brenda’s Wedding Blog where she created a wedding inspiration board based on pomegranates (i.e. the color red)! Obviously the color red for a wedding can be taken in any way, but I like the idea of it being used for a strong, dashing, in vogue theme. In a word – modern! So, what sort of modern wedding engagement rings can I bring up for you?

A great diamond shape for a modern engagement ring is square. It c

Five Clover Rings to Bring you Luck

Lucky 4-Leaf Clover Wire Wrapped Ring

Since I focused on red ruby rings yesterday even though it’s not Valentine’s Day, I can certainly focus on four-leaf clover rings today, right? I know it’s not St. Patrick’s Day, but much like love – we can always use a little luck.

I was inspired to write this after seeing the fabulous handmade 4-Leaf Clover ring made by Pippi Konstanski. Her site states that her personal

Five Ruby Heart Rings to Covet

10kt. White Gold Heart Shaped Ruby Ring

Granted, it’s not Valentine’s Day, but since when do we need a day to think about or feel love? I’m pretty sure a lot of us think about it quite frequently. Whether it’s the lack of it, search for it, or happiness of being in the throes of it. Well, I think that for any of those occasions, a little reminder never hurts. Which is why a heart ring is so iconic. And the only thing better than that? A ruby heart ring. Red signifies power and passion, which are great components of love – romantic or otherwise.

Even as I type this I’m listening to a Sara

Pick Your Favorite: Sand Dollar Ring

14kt Sandollar Ring

Sand dollars are interesting creatures, and lots of people collect them. I, myself, have some dried sand dollars from trips to the beach. They’re very fragile, though. It’s probably no surprise to you that sand dollar jewelry, especially sand dollar rings – are much less fragile than the real thing. Even better, there are tons of variations to pick from. My favorites here are the first one I posted, and the third one. What do you think?

A Collection of Mystical Seahorse Rings

Sterling Silver Seahorse ring

When I was younger I was both enthralled and terrified by seahorses. Not that I came into close contact with them often. I would catch the occasional educational Reading Rainbow episode that would point out how the male horses were the ones who got pregnant, I’d see them in books, and I’d see them at the zoo.

In the large and eerily dark aquarium house at the local zoo, there was a tall glass case that stood apart from the others. Inside were the magical seahorses, clinging to plants with their curly tales. Up close, the seahorses looked ancient, covered in bumps. Watchin

The Best Handmade Initial Rings Discovered on Etsy

Initial Letter E Antique Typewriter Oak Leaf Ring - Black or White Keys - Fully Adjustable

Yesterday I posted some selections of initial rings that I found on the web. But honestly, I wasn’t entirely pleased with the results. So I decided that to get better possibilities I would look to one of my favorite websites . It’s the destination for quality handmade products: Etsy.com!

My first find was  rings that made creative use from typewriter keys (circa the 30’s and 40’s). Right after that I found an amazing custom ring that had engraved charms attached to it. And after that, well – take a look

Own Katy Perry’s Ring

barbie-ring.jpg

The most joyful and vibrant rings I’ve ever come across are those made by designer Tarina Tarantino. I urge you to buy something now if you see something you like. One time I was obsessing over a necklace on her website, and by the time I finally decided to buy it – it was sold out. Procrastinator is apparently not a helpful tool in life. But I’ve learned my lesson. This time, I just need to figure out which of her rings I’d most like to wear. You guys are more than welcome to help me decide.
